Emmanuel Eboué opens up on emotional struggle to stay connected with his children
Former Ivory Coast international and Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboué has spoken about the difficulties he is currently facing in maintaining contact with his children, revealing a painful breakdown in communication with their mother.
“Up till now, I don’t have any recent picture of my kids. When I ask for new pictures from their mom, she refuses to give them to me… They read my messages, but they don’t reply,” Eboué said.
The former right-back, who enjoyed a successful playing career in Europe with Arsenal and Galatasaray among others, made the emotional remarks while reflecting on his strained family situation.
Eboué’s comments highlight the personal challenges he continues to face off the pitch in the years following his retirement from professional football, where he has previously spoken publicly about financial and emotional difficulties.
The 41-year-old remains a respected figure in African football, having represented Ivory Coast at multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and at the FIFA World Cup during his international career.
His latest revelation is likely to reignite conversations around the personal lives of former professionals after retirement, and the often unseen struggles that can follow life at the top level of the game.
