Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania pledge legacy as 2027 AFCON preparations intensify
Uganda and Kenya say they are focused on building a lasting legacy as preparations continue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be co-hosted by the two countries alongside Tanzania in East Africa.
On Wednesday, April 22, football federations from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, together with members of the Pamoja Local Organising Committee, government officials and a CAF delegation, took part in a two-day workshop in Kampala. The CAF team was led by Acting Secretary General Samson Adamu.
The meeting is aimed at reviewing progress on the Pamoja AFCON 2027 preparations and agreeing on practical steps to address the challenges identified so far, with organisers determined to deliver a successful tournament on schedule.
Speaking at the meeting, Uganda Minister of State for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the project.
“On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Uganda and on my own behalf, I reaffirm our commitment to host AFCON in 2027 in line with the agreement,” he said.
“I assure you that the three governments are committed to providing the resources required to ensure this tournament takes place as scheduled.”
Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed also stressed the importance of leaving a strong legacy beyond the tournament.
“What happens after 2027 will define us. The legacy we leave behind for future generations will be critical,” he said.
“This requires sacrifice, longer hours and commitment beyond personal interests.”
