Ghana great Samuel Osei Kuffour has called for unity behind newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, insisting public support is critical as the team prepares for the World Cup.

Kuffour’s intervention comes amid growing scrutiny surrounding Queiroz’s appointment, with sections of the Ghanaian football public questioning the decision by the Ghana Football Association.

However, the former defender believes such criticism is misplaced and ultimately unhelpful at this stage of the team’s cycle.

Kuffour stressed that the decision has already been made and that rallying behind the coach offers the best chance of stability and success.

Beyond the debate over leadership, the Bayern icon highlighted concerns about the squad itself, pointing to a spate of injuries affecting key players ahead of the tournament.

He suggested that Queiroz’s experience at the highest level will be vital in managing the situation and extracting performances from a depleted roster.

“So for me, I think whether we like it or not, we have already signed him. So we must give him the necessary support. Criticism here and there will not help. We can criticize whatever we want to criticize, but whether we like it or not, he is going to sit on the bench. So my advice to every Ghanaian is to support him,” he told 3 Sports.

“Like I said before, with the quality we have today, we’ve lost Kudus, probably he’s not going to play at the World Cup. We’ve lost Salisu, who is not going to play. Nuamah is not there. I think now he’s coming back, but how long will he have to prepare himself for a major tournament?”
