Tarik Sektioui begins tenure as Oman coach after naming first training camp squad
Newly appointed Oman national team coach Tarik Sektioui has taken his first official step in charge by unveiling a squad for an upcoming training camp scheduled from April 18 to 23, as preparations begin for future international competitions.
The Moroccan tactician has wasted no time in assessing his options, maintaining a strong presence across domestic matches to closely monitor player performances and identify those capable of strengthening the national side in the next phase.
Sektioui is also focused on widening the selection pool, casting a broad net across league competitions in a bid to assemble a competitive team that can meet the expectations of Omani supporters.
However, observations from within the local media suggest a slightly different perspective. Omani journalist Dhiab Al-Balushi noted that the coach has not been consistently visible at several league fixtures, raising questions about his scouting approach.
“We notice that coach Tariq Al-Saktiwi is absent from most league matches,” Al-Balushi said.
He added, “To the point that he left for Dhofar Governorate to follow the matches there.”
Despite the differing views, Sektioui’s early moves signal an intent to thoroughly evaluate the available talent as he begins shaping his vision for the national team.
