Esperance star Yan Sasse future hangs in balance ahead of crucial Mamelodi Sundowns clash
Esperance de Tunis playmaker Yan Sasse is expected to make a key decision on his future after the second leg of their CAF Champions League semi-final against Mamelodi Sundowns.
The South African giants take a 1-0 aggregate lead into the return fixture, following Brayan Leon’s decisive strike in Tunisia last weekend.
Another defeat to Sundowns would mark a second consecutive elimination for Espérance at the hands of the Pretoria-based side, who also knocked them out of the competition in last season’s quarter-finals.
While the immediate focus remains on securing a place in the final, reports from Tunisia suggest Sasse’s future at the club is also under serious consideration.
According to M&M News, the Brazilian is likely to depart Espérance at the end of the season, with both parties having set performance-related objectives at the start of the campaign.
His situation is reportedly tied to Espérance’s Champions League campaign this season, with the outcome expected to influence whether he will be offered a contract extension beyond his current deal, which runs until June 2026.
Since joining the club, Sasse has featured 30 times in the Champions League, scoring seven goals and providing one assist, but is yet to lift the trophy, according to Transfermarkt.
