CAF president mourns the death of Ghanaian forward Dominic Frimpong killed in armed robbery attack
Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has expressed deep sorrow following the death of Berekum Chelsea winger Dominic Frimpong, who was killed in a reported armed robbery attack on the club’s team bus.
The 20-year-old promising forward lost his life when the team bus was ambushed at Ahyiresu on Sunday night as the squad returned from a Ghana Premier League fixture.
In a formal letter addressed to Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, Dr Motsepe described the incident as a devastating tragedy that has shaken African football.
“It is with profound sadness that I learned of the armed robbery attack on the bus of Berekum Chelsea, returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture, which claimed the life of a 20-year-old winger, Dominic Frimpong.”
The CAF President extended condolences on behalf of both himself and the continental governing body, offering solidarity to those affected by the loss.
“Please pass my personal and CAF’s deepest condolences to the family, friends and teammates of Dominic Frimpong and to the Ghana Football Association.”
Dr Motsepe also offered prayers and support to the bereaved family and the wider Ghanaian football community, stressing CAF’s unity in a moment of grief.
“May God comfort and console his loved ones and the entire Ghanaian football community. CAF is with you during this sad and painful period.”
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the attackers as investigations continue into the fatal incident.
