Arne Slot backs Rio Ngumoha to trouble PSG in crucial showdown
Arne Slot has strongly hinted that Rio Ngumoha could start against PSG after the teenager’s stunning strike in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Fulham further underlined his growing impact.
With the Reds needing to overturn a 2-0 deficit in the Champions League, the 17-year-old is pushing hard for a place in the XI.
“He can cope with this type of game because of his personality, he doesn’t get distracted,” Slot said, praising Ngumoha’s mentality as much as his talent. “Everyone who knows his history more knows. He has had a lot of expectation for many years and he’s always been able to focus on football and become better and stronger.
“At 17 he has already had multiple starts for Liverpool. And the second thing is his quality. At the highest level he is able to take one v ones on and make it difficult for defenders he is facing,” the manager added. Slot also highlighted the support structure around the youngster. “He has done a very good job in managing up to now but it’s a good thing to have so many experienced players around him which he has.”
Every time Ngumoha has scored for Liverpool this season, they have gone on to win, a trend fans will hope continues in the high-stakes clash with PSG at Anfield.
