Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang makes Marseille history at the Velodrome

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has written another chapter into Olympique Marseille’s story by opening the scoring against Metz and reaching a special milestone at the Stade Vélodrome.

According to Stats du Foot, the Gabon striker is now only the third player to hit 30 official goals at the stadium under Frank McCourt’s ownership, joining Florian Thauvin on 38 and Dimitri Payet on 37.

This latest achievement underlines how transformative his move to Marseille has been. On 21 July 2023, Aubameyang arrived on a free transfer from Chelsea, signing a two-year deal to become the club’s main striker under Marcelino García Toral. After an injury-hit spell in London that brought just three goals in 22 games, many wondered whether his best days were behind him.

Instead, he delivered a stunning response. In the 2023–24 season, Aubameyang scored 30 goals and provided 11 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions, powering Marseille’s attack and reconnecting with the form that once made him one of Europe’s most feared forwards. His newest Velodrome record feels like a reward for that resurgence and his impact on the club.
