The race to lead Gambian football has taken shape with three contenders confirming their intention to run in the August 2026 presidential election of the Gambia Football Federation, setting the stage for a keenly contested battle to succeed outgoing president Lamin Kabba Bajo.

Kemo Ceesay, Sadibou Kamaso and Amadou LS Jaiteh have all formally entered the fray, each seeking to steer the direction of the national game at a time many stakeholders believe is pivotal for reform and renewed ambition.

With Bajo opting not to seek another term, the election represents a rare open contest, expected to draw heightened scrutiny from clubs, administrators and fans alike.

Among the candidates, Sadibou Kamaso returns to familiar territory after his unsuccessful bid in 2022, where he lost to Bajo. His renewed attempt signals unfinished business and a determination to convince voters he can deliver a different trajectory for the federation.

Meanwhile, Kemo Ceesay and Amadou LS Jaiteh enter the contest aiming to capitalize on the leadership vacuum and present fresh visions for governance, development and competitiveness.

The upcoming vote is widely viewed as a defining moment for Gambian football, with expectations that the next administration will address structural challenges, strengthen domestic competitions and build on recent progress at international level.

Administrators within the local game are also keen to see improved transparency and stronger institutional frameworks under the next leadership.
