Burkina Faso U15 girls reach African School Championship final after defeating Morocco
Burkina Faso’s U15 girls’ school football team secured a 1-0 victory over Morocco in the semi-final of the African School Championship on Thursday, advancing to the final against Ghana.
The Burkinabe players, who finished top of their group during the earlier stages of the tournament, faced Morocco in a tightly contested match.
The decisive moment came in the 23rd minute of the second half when a defensive error allowed Burkinabe midfielder Aminata Diarra to score the game’s only goal.
Moroccan goalkeeper’s poor clearance fell to Diarra, who calmly slotted a low shot into the net, giving Burkina Faso the lead they would maintain until the final whistle.
The victory sets up a highly anticipated final against Ghana, who overcame Zambia 1-0 in the other semi-final. Both teams demonstrated strong defensive discipline and attacking potential throughout the tournament, promising an exciting clash for the championship title.
Burkina Faso’s path to the final highlighted their resilience and tactical awareness, with key players like Diarra showing composure in high-pressure situations.
Morocco, despite creating several scoring opportunities, were unable to break through the Burkinabe defence, ultimately falling short.
The final will not only crown the champions of the U15 African School Championship for girls but also showcase some of the continent’s most promising young talents.
Burkina Faso will aim to continue their strong form and secure their first title at this level, while Ghana will seek to replicate their semi-final success.
This result marks a historic moment for Burkina Faso’s youth football, signalling the strength and potential of their upcoming generation of female players.
