Hicham Aït Menna has said he is prepared to step down as president of Wydad Athletic Club if club members decide to remove him, amid increasing pressure following a series of disappointing results.
Speaking on the programme “The Truth in 90 minutes” on Radio Mars, Aït Menna made clear that his future at the club would depend on the wishes of its members.
“If the members meet and decide that I must resign, I will,” he stated. He added, “The essential thing is that someone with a solid program takes over. We will organize a general assembly within 24 hours to allow work to begin immediately.”
His comments come at a time of growing dissatisfaction among supporters, with recent performances intensifying scrutiny on both the club’s leadership and technical direction.
Wydad’s latest setback, a draw against Difaâ Hassani El Jadida on Monday, has further heightened tensions. The result added to frustrations among fans, who have already voiced concerns over the team’s recent form and overall consistency.
The situation has been compounded by the club’s elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup at the quarter-final stage, a result that fell short of expectations for one of Morocco’s most prominent sides.
Supporters have also questioned aspects of the team’s management, including technical decisions and changes within the coaching setup.
Aït Menna acknowledged the importance of stability and forward planning, indicating that any potential transition in leadership should be handled swiftly to minimise disruption.
His willingness to call a general assembly within 24 hours reflects the urgency of the situation, as the club looks to address internal concerns and restore confidence among its supporters.
