Achraf Bencharki linked with move to Al Gharafa

Moroccan international Achraf Bencharki is edging closer to a departure from Al Ahly, with Qatari side Al Gharafa emerging as the leading contender for his signature ahead of the summer transfer window.

Developments in recent days suggest the experienced winger is increasingly likely to leave Egypt, with the Qatar Stars League now his most probable destination.

Al Gharafa have identified the 31-year-old as a priority target as they seek to strengthen their squad for the 2026/27 campaign.

Initial steps towards a potential deal have already been taken. According to reports, Al Gharafa have opened preliminary discussions with Rachid Bencharki, the player’s brother and agent, to evaluate the feasibility of a transfer and gauge the player’s stance.

A first formal offer has also been submitted, with the Qatari club proposing a fee of approximately $1.2 million to secure his release.

However, this bid has yet to convince Al Ahly, whose response is understood to be cautious.

The Cairo-based club are not short of alternatives. Other Gulf sides, including Al Ettifaq and Al Taawoun, have reportedly tabled offers considered more financially attractive. In addition, earlier interest from Al Shahaniya highlights the level of competition for the Moroccan forward.

Al Ahly are therefore maintaining a firm negotiating position, insisting they will not sanction a move for less than $1.8 million, a figure they believe better reflects the player’s value and experience.

The club’s stance is also influenced by its current sporting and financial context. Following an early exit from the CAF Champions League, the Egyptian giants are looking to rebalance their finances while maximising returns on key assets.

Despite being under contract until June 2027, Bencharki’s situation remains fluid. His estimated market value, placed at €2.2 million as of March 2026, has seen a slight decline, partly due to his age and contractual dynamics.

On the pitch, the Moroccan has delivered steady contributions since arriving in January 2025. Across 46 appearances in all competitions, he has scored six goals and provided ten assists.

In domestic league action, he has registered four goals in 23 matches, while also contributing in continental competitions with an assist despite not scoring in 13 Champions League outings. He further added to his record at the 2025 Club World Cup with an assist in two appearances.

Beyond the numbers, Bencharki’s versatility continues to make him an attractive option in the market. Capable of operating across the front line, his experience and adaptability remain key assets.

As negotiations intensify, the outcome remains uncertain. With competing offers, firm valuation demands, and the player’s evolving role, the coming weeks are expected to be decisive in shaping the next chapter of his career.
