Botswana captain Ditlhokwe joins Jordanian club Al-Wehdat after Libya spell

Botswana captain Thatayaone Ditlhokwe has left Libya for Asia after completing a move to Jordanian side Al-Wehdat on a one-year contract.

The former Kaizer Chiefs defender has joined Al-Wehdat following an unsettled 18-month spell in North Africa. Sources close to the player told Soccer Laduma that Ditlhokwe was first loaned out before making a permanent move to the Jordanian club.

“He has been sold by Al-Ittihad. He was on loan before the permanent move to Jordan,” confirmed our source.

Ditlhokwe spent the past 18 months in Libya after leaving Kaizer Chiefs for Al-Ittihad in February 2025. He signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the North African club, with the Soweto-based side reportedly receiving about R15 million for the centre-back.

The 26-year-old defender spent a year with Al-Ittihad before moving temporarily to fellow Libyan club Al-Shomooa. That six-month loan began in February 2026, after which Ditlhokwe completed his switch to Al-Wehdat.

His move to Jordan brings an end to a relatively short period in Libya, where he had been expected to remain with Al-Ittihad until the conclusion of his contract. Instead, the agreement was ended with the player moving on after his loan spell.

Ditlhokwe could not be reached for comment about the transfer.

The Botswana international joined Kaizer Chiefs before making his move abroad and has continued to represent his country during his club career. His transfer to Al-Wehdat now gives him the opportunity to continue playing in Asia after his time in both Libya and South Africa.

Al-Wehdat are one of Jordan’s established clubs, and Ditlhokwe will begin his latest chapter there on a one-year deal. The move was confirmed after the player’s departure from Al-Ittihad and follows the conclusion of his loan arrangement with Al-Shomooa.

His exit from Libya comes after an 18-month period that included a permanent transfer from Kaizer Chiefs, a season with Al-Ittihad and a subsequent loan move. The reported R15 million fee made Ditlhokwe one of the notable departures from the Soweto giants when he left in February 2025.

The player’s transfer was reported on 28 August 2026.
