Jonathan Tah happy with Bayern advantage over Real Madrid
Jonathan Tah believes Bayern Munich have put themselves in a strong position after their 2–1 away win over Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final first leg, but insists nobody at the club is getting carried away yet.
“It is especially gratifying to win here; it is no easy task. However, we understand that the return leg is still ahead, even though it will be played in front of our fans. We have prepared everything to put on a good performance in Munich and will do everything possible to advance. We are also very pleased with how we performed here with great courage and confidence,” Tah said, reflecting on a disciplined display in Madrid.
The defender felt Bayern could have been even more clinical. “We could have scored one or two more goals. We have created a good position for ourselves heading into the second leg. In the end, the main thing is to impose our game, which we managed to do at certain moments today. You also have to respect the opponents – they can create dangerous moments but we handled that well too because we defended as a united team.”
Tah also praised Manuel Neuer’s influence. “Neuer’s performance? Does it surprise you? We are grateful to him in every match. He has a special aura, thanks to the saves he consistently makes. You can’t take it for granted, but for him, it’s just normal,” he added. The second leg in Munich is set for April 15.
