Algeria coach Vladimir Petkovic agrees new deal amid salary clarification
Vladimir Petkovic is close to extending his tenure as head coach of the Algeria national football team, with reports indicating an agreement in principle that would keep him in charge until 2028.
Talks between the coach and the Algerian Football Federation have progressed in recent weeks, with both sides said to favour continuity as Algeria looks to build stability in its long-term project.
Petkovic is understood to have given his approval to the proposed extension, paving the way for what is expected to be a multi-year commitment.
While early speculation suggested the deal could involve a significant salary increase, emerging details point to a more measured arrangement.
According to reports, the coach has agreed to maintain a monthly salary of around €130,000, rather than the higher figures previously mentioned in some quarters.
The revised terms underline a shared approach between the federation and the coach, focused on maintaining balance rather than increasing financial commitments.
By opting against a larger salary package, both parties appear to be prioritising continuity and the broader sporting objectives of the national team.
The proposed extension is seen as a step towards reinforcing technical stability, particularly as Algeria continues to prepare for upcoming international competitions.
Petkovic’s leadership is viewed as central to that process, following a period of mixed results that has prompted reflection and adjustment within the squad.
An official announcement confirming the agreement is expected in the near future, which would secure Petkovic’s position for the next four years.
The move would provide clarity over the team’s direction and allow preparations to continue without uncertainty at managerial level.
For Algeria, the focus now turns to translating that stability into consistent performances on the pitch, as the national side looks ahead to its next competitive challenges.
