Ghana suffer double injury blow as Inaki Williams and Thomas-Asante withdraw from squad
Ghana have been hit with a massive injury setback ahead of their upcoming international friendlies, with forwards Inaki Williams and Brandon Thomas-Asante ruled out of the squad.
The Ghana Football Association confirmed that Williams sustained a knock after completing the full 90 minutes in Athletic Bilbao’s La Liga win over Real Betis.
Following scans, Williams has been advised against participation in the upcoming friendlies, prompting the decision to withdraw him from coach Otto Addo’s squad.
Thomas-Asante also faces a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury during Coventry City’s 3-0 triumph over Swansea City. The forward was forced off in the 62nd minute, and subsequent medical checks revealed that the injury was more serious than initially expected.
As a result, both players have been withdrawn from Ghana’s preparations for the friendly matches against Austria national football team and Germany national football team.
This development is a setback for Addo, who will now have to adjust his attacking options ahead of the fixtures. Both Williams and Thomas-Asante have been key contributors to their clubs this season, and their absence leaves a notable gap in Ghana’s forward line.
The GFA and medical staff are expected to continue monitoring both players closely, with hopes that they will recover fully in time for upcoming competitive fixtures later in the year. In the meantime, Addo will need to rely on other attacking options to maintain Ghana’s attacking threat against strong European opposition.
