Wydad Casablanca have confirmed the departure of head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem after reaching a mutual agreement to end his tenure with the club.

In a statement released on Monday, the Moroccan side said the decision to part ways with Benhachem had been taken “within a consensual framework”, bringing his spell in charge of the first team to a close.

The club addressed its supporters and members directly, announcing the conclusion of Benhachem’s mission and expressing appreciation for his contribution during his time in charge.

Wydad also extended its “sincere thanks” to the coach for the work he carried out with the team.

Benhachem had been appointed to the role following the departure of South African coach Rulani Mokwena. During his time at the helm, he guided the club through a number of competitions, including participation in the Club World Cup with the three-time African champions.

Domestically, Wydad remain firmly in contention in the Botola Pro D1 “Inwi”. The Casablanca-based club currently sit in second place with 29 points, trailing rivals Raja Casablanca by a single point, while holding three games in hand.

Despite their strong league position, the team’s continental campaign came to an end earlier than hoped.

In the CAF Cup, Wydad were eliminated at the quarter-final stage following an all-Moroccan encounter against Olympic Safi.

The club did not provide further details on the reasons behind the decision or indicate who may take over the role on a permanent basis.

Benhachem’s departure marks another change for Wydad as they continue their push for domestic success while seeking stability on the bench. Attention will now turn to how the team responds in the coming fixtures as the season progresses.
