Newcastle United agree deal for Genclerbirligi midfielder Ousmane Diabate

Newcastle United have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Genclerbirligi midfielder Ousmane Diabate, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 18-year-old Guinea international chose the Premier League club despite receiving proposals from two other European teams.

Newcastle view Diabate as a promising young player with considerable potential. Rather than rushing him into English football, however, the club have agreed on a development-focused plan that will keep him in Turkey for another season.

Diabate is expected to spend the entire 2026/27 campaign on loan at Genclerbirligi. The arrangement should give him regular first-team football, valuable competitive experience and more time to adapt physically and tactically before beginning life at St James’ Park.

The teenager made seven appearances for Genclerbirligi last season and contributed one assist. While those numbers remain modest, Newcastle believe his performances and long-term upside justify investing in his development.

The move reflects the club’s strategy of recruiting emerging talent and allowing young players to mature before placing them under Premier League pressure. Diabate will now have another opportunity to establish himself in Turkey before joining Newcastle.

If his progress continues, the midfielder could arrive in England next summer with greater confidence and experience, ready to compete for a place in the Magpies’ long-term plans.
