Jose Riveiro drags Al Ahly to CAS over unpaid $588,000 debt
Tensions between Al-Ahly SC and former coach Jose Riveiro have intensified after Riveiro lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport, challenging the $588,000 fine imposed on the club. The dispute stems from the termination of his contract last September.
According to sources, Riveiro’s appeal seeks not only to overturn the ruling but also to secure his full contractual entitlements, including a full season’s salary.
The Spanish coach maintains that his departure was not voluntary and insists he is owed compensation as per the terms agreed in his contract.
Riveiro’s stint at Al-Ahly was brief and ended amid a slump in results, sparking a legal battle over financial claims and contract termination procedures.
Al-Ahly is set to return to action on Friday, April 3, at 8 p.m. Cairo time, facing Ceramica Cleopatra FC in the opening round of the final stage of the Egyptian Premier League.
