Wydad set to sack Amine Benhachem as serial winner Juan Garrido emerges as top candidate
Wydad AC are on the verge of parting ways with head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem following the team’s disappointing exit from the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Casablanca giants saw their continental campaign come to an abrupt end at the quarter-final stage after being eliminated by fellow Moroccan side Olympique Safi, a result that has accelerated changes at the club.
Amid the expected managerial shake-up, Spanish coach Juan Carlos Garrido has emerged as a leading contender to take over the role.
Garrido is no stranger to Moroccan football, having previously managed both Wydad and their fierce rivals Raja Casablanca, bringing valuable local experience into consideration.
However, he is not the only name under review. The club is also reportedly weighing up options that include Hussein Ammouta and Patrice Carteron, as Wydad look to appoint a manager capable of restoring stability and competitiveness.
Garrido’s managerial journey has been marked by frequent moves across clubs in Africa and the Middle East. His résumé includes spells with Al Ahly SC, Al-Ettifaq FC, Étoile du Sahel, Wydad, Raja, Al-Ittihad Tripoli, and Persepolis FC.
While his experience is extensive, his career has also been defined by a series of short-lived stints, earning him a reputation for frequent managerial changes.
As Wydad prepare to make a decisive move, the focus now shifts to identifying the right figure to lead the club back to success after a turbulent period.
