South African outfit Stellenbosch FC offer defender Thabo Moloisane contract extension

South African outfit Stellenbosch FC have offered defender Thabo Moloisane contract extension in an attempt to keep him at the club beyond his current deal.

Despite the club presenting a competitive offer, the 27-year-old centre-back has yet to commit, leaving his future uncertain. He is keeping the Cape winelands club on tenterhooks as his contract edges closer to expiry in June.

Moloisane’s rising stock, fueled by recent appearances for the national team, has sparked speculation about a possible move away from Stellies.

However, the Chief Executive Officer of the club, Rob Benadie insists the club has done its part to retain the talented defender.

“I’m going to be totally honest and transparent with you. Thabo Moloisane, we would like to keep him,” Benadie said. “We’ve offered him a contract and he hasn’t signed it. So, he is a free agent. You know, as we speak, he can sign a pre-contract. Whether he’s done that or not, according to him and his agent, he hasn’t signed with anybody yet.”

Benadie highlighted the club’s financial limitations, emphasizing the careful balance Stellies must maintain. “We’re a club with limited resources. We don’t have an unlimited budget. So, if I’m going to pay you R10 grand, I’m going to have to take R2 off another player’s budget and so on. We’ve offered him what we think is a very competitive contract. And it’s now up to the player to decide if he wants to stay with us or go somewhere else. We will prepare for both scenarios.”

With Moloisane playing the waiting game, Stellies supporters can only speculate whether the homegrown talent will stay loyal or pursue new challenges elsewhere, leaving the club bracing for any eventuality.
