Egypt lose star Mohammed Salah for Saudi Arabia and Spain friendlies due to injury
Egyptian international Mohammed Salah has been ruled out of upcoming games against Saudi Arabia and Spain following an injury setback.
The experienced winger picked up a muscle injury in the crucial Champions League round 16 return clash between Liverpool and Galatasaray, making him unavailable for the sides Premier League game against Brighton and also March international break.
Salah was substituted in the 74th minute, as the side cruised to a victory over Galatasaray to progress to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Ahead of the Brighton & Hove Albion clash, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot confirmed Liverpool’s unavailability for the match, as well as the international friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Spain.
“Mo Salah has a muscle issue, so he won’t be available this weekend and will also miss the international fixtures,” Slot confirmed.
The Pharaohs are scheduled for two friendlies ahead of the tournament: against Saudi Arabia national football team on March 27 and Spain national football team on March 30. Salah’s absence from both games will significantly impact Egypt’s preparation, leaving coach Jamal Belmadi to adjust his tactics in the winger’s absence.
Salah’s potential unavailability for the upcoming games represents a major blow for Egypt, as he remains the team’s talisman and one of the tournament’s most dangerous attacking threats. Liverpool will also feel the strain, with their Premier League campaign at a critical juncture.
Medical staff and analysts will closely monitor Salah’s recovery, but if the muscle issue lingers, both club and country could face a future without one of their brightest stars on the world stage. For now, fans can only hope for a swift recovery to see Salah back in action in time for football’s biggest tournament.
