Liverpool held to another draw as Nottingham Forest twice lead at Anfield

Liverpool were unable to secure their first Premier League win of the season as Nottingham Forest twice took the lead before the visitors were held to a 2-2 draw at Anfield on Saturday.

The result means Liverpool have taken only two points from their opening two league matches, having drawn by the same scoreline against Newcastle United in their opening fixture. Nottingham Forest claimed their first point of the campaign and both sides remain in the lower half of the early table.

Nottingham Forest made the stronger start and went ahead in the 24th minute through Dan Ndoye. The forward finished a rapid attack with an excellent strike into the far corner of Alisson Becker’s goal, giving the visitors the advantage at Anfield.

Liverpool tried to respond before half-time and appeared to have levelled in the 32nd minute. Florian Wirtz found the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside, leaving the home side behind at the interval.

The hosts eventually drew level after the break. Alexander Isak scored in the 60th minute after meeting a cross from Netherlands international Cody Gakpo and directing the ball into the net.

Forest restored their advantage 10 minutes later when Morgan Gibbs-White converted a penalty. Liverpool were again forced to chase the game, but they found a second equaliser before the final whistle.

Victor Munoz produced the decisive moment for Liverpool with a powerful effort that struck the crossbar before going into the visitors’ net to make it 2-2. It was also Munoz’s first Premier League start for Liverpool.

Although Liverpool pressed for a winning goal after levelling, neither side could find a late breakthrough. The draw leaves the Reds with two points, placing them temporarily 10th in the Premier League standings.

Nottingham Forest moved on to one point and occupy 12th place for the time being, with both positions subject to change when the remaining matches in the second round are played.

For Liverpool, the outcome represents another missed opportunity after their opening-day draw with Newcastle United. They have now conceded twice in each of their first two league games and remain without a victory in the competition this season.

Forest, meanwhile, secured a point after twice capitalising on their opportunities at Anfield. Ndoye’s first-half finish and Gibbs-White’s penalty put the visitors in front on separate occasions, but Liverpool responded each time through Isak and Munoz.

Munoz’s goal, which came after the ball rebounded from the crossbar, ensured Liverpool avoided defeat on home soil but could not prevent another draw at the beginning of their Premier League campaign.
