Ibrahim Mbaye has been handed a fresh chance with Senegal after being called up for the March international break, despite struggling for regular minutes at Paris Saint-Germain since AFCON 2025.

The 2026 World Cup is fast approaching, and this window will be important for players fighting to secure their place in Aliou Cisse’s plans.

Senegal will face Peru on 28 March at Stade de France in Paris, a high-profile friendly that will test the Lions of Teranga against strong South American opposition. They will then return home to play Gambia on 31 March in Diamniadio, their final game in front of their own fans before heading to the World Cup.

Mbaye’s exact involvement remains unclear, with the defender still searching for consistent game time at club level. His inclusion, however, shows the coaching staff still value his experience and qualities within the national setup.

Cisse has also used this break to look at new options, calling up Rayo Vallecano defender Nobel Mendy and promising Club Brugge winger Mamadou Diakhon. Diakhon is highly regarded and has also been summoned by France’s youth national team, underlining the growing competition for his international future.
