Real Betis celebrate Abde Ezzalzouli and Sofyan Amrabat after Morocco's declaration as AFCON 2025 champions

La Liga outfit Real Betis paid tribute to Moroccan internationals Abdessamad Ezzalzouli and Sofyan Amrabat in an emotional moment at training, as the squad formed a traditional Spanish “pasillo” to honour their country’s newly confirmed Africa Cup of Nations success.

The gesture reflected the admiration within the dressing room, as teammates acknowledged the duo’s contribution to Morocco’s achievement on the international stage.

The tribute comes in the wake of a landmark ruling by the Confederation of African Football, which officially awarded Morocco the 2025 AFCON title with a 3-0 decision off the pitch.

In response, Betis ensured their Moroccan representatives were recognised as part of the historic triumph.

Ezzalzouli, in particular, has been enjoying a standout campaign. The winger has emerged as a key figure under head coach Manuel Pellegrini, delivering consistent performances in attack. With nine goals and six assists in over 25 appearances across all competitions, he has established himself as one of the team’s most influential players this season.

His impact has been especially notable in La Liga, where he has registered five goals and four assists in 15 matches, earning a nomination for Player of the Month in February. One of his defining moments came in January 2026, when he netted the decisive goal against Deportivo Alavés.

Such form has not gone unnoticed, with major European clubs including FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly monitoring his progress, while Betis are said to value him at around €40 million.

Amrabat, currently on loan from Fenerbahçe since September 2025, also made a strong impression upon arrival, quickly becoming a central figure in midfield. However, his momentum was halted by a right ankle cartilage injury that required surgery, limiting him to just 11 appearances so far this season.

Despite their contrasting situations, one thriving and the other working his way back to fitness, both players remain symbols of Morocco’s continental success and the growing influence of Moroccan talent across European football.
