Senegal stars mock CAF’s decision to award Morocco AFCON 2025 title
The Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) controversial decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and award it to Morocco has sparked outrage among the “Lions of Teranga.”
The ruling, which came after a review of Morocco’s appeal, overturned Senegal’s on-field 1-0 victory in extra time.
The final in Rabat was already mired in controversy, with a late penalty awarded to Morocco prompting a temporary walk-off by Senegalese players in protest, before returning to complete the match under the guidance of captain Sadio Mane. Pape Gueye’s extra-time goal had initially secured Senegal’s triumph.

Despite CAF’s administrative decision citing Article 82 of its disciplinary regulations, several Senegalese stars took to social media to mock the ruling and assert their claim to the title.
Players, including Paty Cisse, Habib Diarra, Demba Djeneux, and coach Pape Thiaw, shared photos with the trophy, signalling their rejection of the verdict and celebrating what they consider their legitimate victory.

The posts highlight the defiance and unity within the Senegal squad, emphasising that, in the eyes of the players and fans, the triumph on the field remains undeniable.
