Former Nigeria midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has embarked on a new chapter in his career after completing a move to Lithuanian second-division side FK Babrungas.

The experienced midfielder will wear the number 23 jersey as he begins life with the club, bringing with him a wealth of experience gained from playing in several European leagues and representing Nigeria on the international stage.

Onazi’s move marks a return to familiar territory, as he has previously featured in Lithuanian football during a spell with FK Žalgiris earlier in his career. His prior experience in the country could prove valuable as he looks to quickly settle and contribute to his new team.

The 31-year-old midfielder rose to prominence during his time in Europe, particularly during his spell with Italian club SS Lazio, where he became a regular figure in midfield and gained recognition for his energetic style of play, strong tackling ability, and leadership qualities. His performances in Italy also helped cement his place in the Nigerian national team setup for several years.

Onazi was an important member of Nigeria’s squad during the 2010s and played a role in major international tournaments. Known for his work rate and ability to break up opposition attacks, he earned numerous caps for the Super Eagles and was widely regarded as one of the team’s dependable midfield options during his peak years.

After leaving Lazio, the midfielder continued his club career across different countries, gaining further experience and adapting to various footballing environments. His latest move to FK Babrungas now offers him another opportunity to showcase his experience and leadership in a developing football environment.

For FK Babrungas, the signing represents a significant addition to their squad. Bringing in a player with international pedigree and experience at top European clubs could provide a major boost as the team aims to strengthen its competitiveness in Lithuania’s second division.

Onazi will be expected to play a key role both on and off the pitch, guiding younger players while also contributing his technical ability and tactical understanding in midfield.

As he prepares to pull on the number 23 jersey for the Lithuanian side, the former Super Eagles star will be hoping that this new chapter revitalizes his career and allows him to continue making an impact in professional football.
