Napoli join growing race to sign Ivorian defender Wilfried Singo
Italian side SSC Napoli have reportedly entered the race to sign Ivorian defender Wilfried Singo, whose performances since joining Galatasaray have begun attracting attention across Europe.
Singo’s career has taken a notable turn since his move to the Istanbul club last summer from AS Monaco.
The 25-year-old has gradually secured his place in the team, earning the confidence of the coaching staff while also winning the support of supporters.
His resurgence has quickly turned him into one of the players to watch in the transfer market.
During the most recent winter transfer window, several clubs from the Premier League were already reported to be monitoring his situation.
Now, fresh interest has emerged from Italy.
According to the Italian newspaper Il Mattino, Napoli have begun exploring the possibility of signing the former Torino FC defender.
The report suggests that discussions currently taking place between Napoli and the agency representing André‑Frank Zambo Anguissa regarding a potential contract extension provided an opportunity for the Italian club to also enquire about Singo.
Both players are represented by the same agency, Maxime Nana.
Singo’s previous experience in Serie A is viewed as an advantage that could ease a return to the Italian top flight.
His versatility is another factor believed to appeal to Napoli manager Antonio Conte, as the Ivorian is capable of playing in several defensive roles and can also operate in midfield when required.
Despite the growing interest, Galatasaray appear in no hurry to sell.
Singo remains under contract with the Turkish club until 30 June 2030 after arriving last summer, and he has gradually become an important part of the squad.
The Istanbul club are also understood to have placed a high valuation on the defender.
Reports indicate Galatasaray initially set an asking price of around €50m and could demand even more if competition for his signature intensifies during the upcoming transfer window.
Singo currently earns an annual salary of about €6m, equivalent to roughly 3.9bn FCFA.
Since the start of the season he has made 21 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and providing three assists.
According to Transfermarkt, his market value is estimated at €25m.
Galatasaray’s attention will soon turn back to the pitch, with the Turkish side preparing for the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie against Liverpool FC at the Istanbul Başakşehir FK ground.
As speculation over Singo’s future continues to grow, his performances in the coming weeks could further shape the interest surrounding him ahead of the summer transfer window.
