Paris FC defender Moustapha Mbow pushing for Senegal call-up ahead of 2026 World Cup

Moustapha Mbow is strengthening his case for a place in the Senegal national football team after establishing himself as one of the most reliable defenders for Paris FC this season.

The 26-year-old centre-back has become a key figure in Paris FC’s defence during his first campaign in the French top flight, producing a series of assured displays that have drawn attention.

Standing at 1.93 metres, the Senegal international has impressed with his consistency and physical presence, helping him emerge as one of the defensive standouts of the current campaign.

Since the start of the season, Mbow has been a regular starter and among the most frequently used players in the Parisian side.

His performances at the back have contributed to his growing reputation, with several of his displays earning him a place in weekly selections highlighting the league’s standout players.

One of those recognitions came after a particularly strong performance against Olympique Lyonnais, where his defensive work helped underline his importance to the team.

Mbow’s style of play has also attracted interest beyond France. Comfortable in possession and capable of operating in different defensive roles, the Senegalese defender has reportedly drawn enquiries from clubs in other European leagues.

Among those said to have shown interest during the winter transfer window are FC Augsburg, VfL Wolfsburg and West Ham United.

Despite the growing attention from abroad, Mbow’s immediate ambition may lie with his national team. The defender is seeking to convince Pape Thiaw that he deserves a place in the squad as Senegal prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Mbow has previously been called up by Senegal, receiving an invitation to join the national squad in September 2025. However, he did not feature in a match during that international window.

With his performances continuing to attract recognition in Ligue 1, the defender now appears determined to strengthen his chances of returning to the national team set-up.

If his current form continues, Mbow could have a strong opportunity to feature in the next squad selection as Senegal builds its team for the upcoming World Cup cycle.
