Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies injuries dampen Bayern’s Champions League rout

Bayern Munich’s commanding Champions League win over Atalanta has been overshadowed by fresh injury worries for Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies.

The German champions cruised to a 6-1 victory in the first leg of their round of 16 tie in Italy on Tuesday, but the celebrations quickly gave way to concern inside the squad.

On Wednesday the club confirmed that Musiala, Davies and young goalkeeper Jonas Urbig all picked up injuries during the match and will spend a period out of action.

Musiala, the Germany international with Nigerian roots, and Davies, the Canada star born to Liberian parents, are two of Bayern’s most dynamic attacking weapons. Their absence would represent a significant blow as the Bavarian side pursue both European and domestic honours.

Musiala has become the creative heartbeat of the team in recent seasons, while Davies remains one of the fastest and most dangerous full backs in world football, capable of transforming defence into attack in a matter of seconds.

Bayern said Musiala hurt his left ankle during the one sided contest, a worrying setback for the 22 year old who only recently returned to full fitness.

The playmaker had spent months recovering from the broken ankle and leg he suffered in July 2025 and had been eager to rebuild rhythm ahead of the World Cup scheduled for June.

Davies, meanwhile, sustained a thigh muscle injury not long after making his own comeback from a previous problem, raising fears of another spell of rehabilitation for the explosive Canadian.

Goalkeeper Urbig was also ruled out after suffering a concussion in a collision with an opponent late in the match. The incident occurred moments before the final whistle of a game Bayern otherwise controlled from start to finish. Despite the injuries, the result leaves the Bundesliga leaders in a commanding position ahead of the return leg in Munich next week.

Bayern currently hold an 11 point advantage at the top of the domestic table and remain strong contenders on multiple fronts.

The club did not specify recovery timelines for any of the three players, leaving supporters waiting anxiously for further medical updates in the coming days as assessments continue internally today.
