Zulte Waregem bring in Senegal international prospect Youssoupha Mbodji from Slavia Prague
Senegalese left-back Youssoupha Mbodji has joined Belgian side Zulte Waregem from Czech champions Slavia Prague on loan until 30 June 2027.
The 22-year-old defender made the move on 17 August 2026, switching from the Chance Liga to Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League. No transfer fee has been disclosed for the temporary move.
Mbodji is a naturally left-footed full-back who stands 1.90m tall. He arrives at Zulte Waregem after winning the Czech Championship with Slavia during the 2025-26 season.
The Senegalese player joined Slavia from Jihlava on 20 August 2025. That move followed a spell with French club Thonon Evian, whom he left for Jihlava on 1 July 2025.
Mbodji’s time at Slavia ended after one season, during which the club secured the Czech title. His transfer to Zulte Waregem represents a move into Belgian football and a return to regular club competition after he was not involved in Slavia’s first four possible Chance Liga matches of the 2026-27 campaign.
He has been registered by Zulte Waregem as a defender, with the left-back’s preferred foot offering a clear indication of his role in the squad. His loan is scheduled to end on 30 June 2027, when he is due to return to Slavia Prague.
Mbodji’s market value is €1.2m, while his highest recorded value has been €1.8m. Those figures do not alter the terms of the completed loan agreement between the two clubs.
The move adds another chapter to a short but eventful senior career that has already taken the Dakar-born defender from France to the Czech Republic and now Belgium. He joined Slavia after his season at Jihlava and was part of the squad that lifted the Czech title before moving on loan.
Zulte Waregem have therefore secured Mbodji’s services for the 2026-27 season, with the Senegalese left-back contracted to remain with the Belgian club until the end of June 2027.
