2026 World Cup: Donald Trump will welcome Iran to the USA - Gianni Infantino

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that US President Donald Trump has welcomed the participation of the Iranian national team in the 2026 World Cup.

The tournament, scheduled from June 11 to July 19, 2026, will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Iran has been drawn into Group G alongside Egypt, Belgium, and New Zealand.

The announcement comes amid ongoing political and security tensions between the United States and Iran, sparking speculation about whether the Iranian team might consider withdrawing.

Speaking to the British newspaper The Independent, Infantino said, “We discussed the current situation in Iran, and President Trump reiterated that the Iranian national team is welcome to participate in the tournament.”

He added, “We need events like the World Cup to unite people and bring them together more than ever.”
