Mamelodi Sundowns star Iqraam Rayners opens up on new found form

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners has expressed satisfaction with his return to top form, following a challenging start to the season where injury and time on the sidelines threatened his rhythm.

Rayners, who spent much of the early season away from action, has now reignited his scoring touch, netting 10 goals in the Betway Premiership, including four goals in just three matches since his return to the Sundowns lineup last month. His recent performances were capped by a goal in Sundowns’ 2-0 victory over Orbit College, keeping the team firmly at the summit of the league standings.

“I think for me it was a bit difficult because I did not play in a long time,” Rayners told SuperSport TV after the win. “But every day at training I was pushing myself, and I know how to score goals… and help the team win games.”

The former Stellenbosch FC striker’s resurgence has come at a crucial time for Sundowns, who now sit top of the Betway Premiership with 47 points, three clear of second-placed Orlando Pirates. Rayners’ form not only boosts the team’s domestic campaign but also strengthens their attacking options as they balance league commitments with continental competitions.

Coach Miguel Cardoso will be buoyed by Rayners’ return, as the striker’s goal-scoring instincts provide a cutting edge that Sundowns have been looking for this season. Fans will be hoping Rayners continues his hot streak, propelling Sundowns closer to another league title and giving them momentum ahead of the CAF Champions League fixtures.
