Omar Marmoush proud of Manchester City mentality after Newcastle comeback win
Omar Marmoush hailed Manchester City’s character after his brace completed a 3-1 comeback win over Newcastle to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Newcastle had started fast and took the lead when Harvey Barnes was left free in the box to curl in the opener, but City slowly took control of the game.
They equalised in the 39th minute as Savinho tapped into an empty net after sharp work from Jeremy Doku down the flank. After half-time it was one-way traffic, with Marmoush turning the tie on its head, first making it 2-1 shortly after the restart and then adding a cool third on 65 minutes from a Matheus Nunes assist.
“Amazing performance,” the Egyptian forward told TNT Sports, reflecting on both the display and the fight his side showed. “We showed our mentality and passion on the pitch and for that we’re very happy to go to the next round. I’m very happy to help the team with the goals and we keep going.”
His double took him to seven goals in five games against Newcastle, underlining just how much he enjoys facing the Magpies.
