Cairo Stadium ready to host international games - Walid Abdel Wahab

Executive Director of Cairo Stadium, Walid Abdel Wahab, has outlined a series of upgrades and strategic plans for the venue in the months ahead.

Speaking on Shaabi FM’s “The Gathering is Sweeter” program with journalist Mohamed Shabana, Abdel Wahab confirmed that the stadium is ready to host the national team’s friendly matches should they take place outside Qatar.

He noted that Gawhar Nabil, Minister of Youth and Sports, recently inspected the stadium in preparation for Egypt hosting the Qatar friendly tournament.

Abdel Wahab highlighted that the pitch undergoes regular maintenance to preserve its quality.

From next season, the stadium will accommodate just three club teams alongside national team fixtures, a move aimed at reducing wear and ensuring optimal playing conditions.

On the financial front, Abdel Wahab revealed a new investment contract expected to generate around 300 million Egyptian pounds annually, with profits split evenly between the state and the implementing company.

He also announced plans for a 22,000-square-meter development featuring a commercial mall, banking facilities, and an entertainment zone, which could make the stadium financially self-sufficient within a year.

Additionally, the executive director noted that the Minister of Youth and Sports has called for amendments to the stadium’s employee financial regulations.

With an anticipated annual revenue of 150 million pounds, Abdel Wahab emphasized that the stadium can cover its maintenance costs and build a financial reserve, reducing reliance on state funding.
