Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng at a crossroads as Al Ahly face transfer standoff

Spanish side Valencia CF have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign Mali and Al Ahly midfielder Aliou Dieng.

The highly-rated midfielder’s contract with the Egyptian giants is set to expire at the end of the current season, and multiple reports in recent weeks had suggested the Malian international was close to securing a free transfer to the La Liga club.

Per reports, Valencia have decided to step back from the agreement despite having previously reached preliminary terms with the player.

The report indicated that the decision was made following the recommendation of Valencia’s head coach Carlos Corberán, who prefers to maintain stability in midfield by relying on the experience of Argentine international Guido Rodríguez in the defensive midfield role.

Valencia’s withdrawal has created uncertainty around Dieng’s next move, especially after expectations had grown that the midfielder would embark on a new chapter in Spanish football next season.

With the transfer now off the table, the chances of Dieng remaining with Al Ahly have increased significantly. The 26-year-old has been a key figure for the Cairo-based club in recent years, playing a vital role in their domestic and continental successes.

The coming weeks are expected to be decisive for the midfielder’s future. Al Ahly could open negotiations to extend his contract, while the player may also explore other potential opportunities that could arise during the upcoming summer transfer window.
