South African forward Thembinkosi Lorch delivers again as Al-Ittihad extend dominant lead in Libya

Thembinkosi Lorch continued his strong start in Libya by providing an assist as Al-Ittihad SC secured a 2-0 victory over Abelashhar in the Libyan Premier League.

The South African forward played a decisive role in the win, setting up Mouad Issa for the opening goal shortly after the hour mark.

Ahmed Al Bizi added a second seven minutes later to seal the result and maintain the club’s commanding position at the top of the table.

Lorch’s influence since arriving in North Africa has been immediate.

The 32-year-old joined the 18-time Libyan champions during the winter transfer window in a high-profile move from Wydad Athletic Club.

His transition has been seamless, with the attacker contributing one goal and one assist in just three appearances across all competitions.

Against Abelashhar, his vision and composure once again proved valuable.

With the match finely balanced, Lorch’s delivery created the breakthrough, allowing Issa to put the hosts ahead.

The second goal soon followed, giving Al-Ittihad control of proceedings and ensuring maximum points.

The victory strengthens Al-Ittihad’s grip on the league summit.

After 10 matches, they have accumulated 28 points and now hold an eight-point advantage over their nearest challengers.

The consistency shown so far has underlined their credentials as early title contenders.

For Lorch, the move abroad appears to have reinvigorated his game.

Having departed Moroccan heavyweights Wydad in January, he has quickly established himself as a key figure within his new side.

His contributions have not only enhanced the team’s attacking output but also demonstrated his adaptability in a different footballing environment.

Attention now turns to the next fixture, with Al-Ittihad preparing to face Al Shomoa on Friday, 6 March.

Lorch will aim to build on his promising form as the Libyan heavyweights continue their push to extend their advantage at the top.
