Espérance: ‘I want to achieve something great’ – Patrice Beaumelle unveiled in Tunis

Patrice Beaumelle has declared his ambition to “achieve something great” at Espérance Sportive de Tunis as he was officially unveiled as the club’s new head coach.

Speaking at his first press conference on Monday, the French manager outlined his footballing philosophy, addressed the situation of several sidelined players and spoke directly about Youcef Belaïli’s future.

When asked about the Algerian international and other players currently out of the squad, Beaumelle struck a measured tone while making clear that decisions would not rest with him alone.

“I am in contact with Belaïli. Injuries have disrupted the team. I want a squad capable of pressing the opposition, true to my style of play. I will also speak with the sidelined players, but the administration will decide their future,” Beaumelle explained.

Belaïli is recovering after suffering a serious injury before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and did not travel with Algeria to Morocco for the tournament.

Beaumelle’s comments suggested a willingness to reintegrate players where possible, while acknowledging that administrative authorities will have the final say on contractual matters.

Beyond individual cases, the 20-year coaching veteran laid out a broader vision for the Tunisian giants.

He emphasised the need for intensity, discipline and a collective commitment to pressing high up the pitch.

According to Beaumelle, restoring cohesion and energy is central to his immediate objectives after a period marked by injuries and instability within the squad.

The former national team coach made no attempt to temper expectations.

“I want to achieve something great with Espérance. I’ve come to a great club with a very strong identity, and I will put my more than 20 years of experience in Africa to good use.”

Beaumelle acknowledged the weight of responsibility that comes with leading one of Tunisia’s most decorated clubs, often referred to as the Blood and Gold.

His message was clear: ambition and structure will define his tenure.

With his presentation complete, attention now shifts from words to results as Espérance look to translate their new coach’s plans into performances on the pitch.
