Barcelona join race to sign Cameroonian midfielder Karl Etta Eyong
Barcelona has entered the race to sign Cameroonian midfielder Karl Etta Eyong from UD Levante.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a strong start to the season, though he has not scored since October.
Despite this, he continues to attract attention from the Catalan giants and several other top European clubs.
Levante were reportedly ready to sanction his departure, with Russian side CSKA Moscow attempting to secure a €30 million deal.
However, according to reports, Etta Eyong has rejected the move, expressing his desire to remain in Europe and wait until the summer to leave Levante.
The midfielder was notably left out of Levante’s home defeat to Villarreal on Wednesday, a decision linked to the ongoing dispute between him and the club’s management.
Levante are keen to push through the CSKA Moscow transfer, but the player has resisted, frustrating the Valencian side.
Reports in England suggest that Etta Eyong has strong reasons for declining the Russian move.
In addition to CSKA, he is attracting interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Arsenal, Everton, and Fulham.
If the CSKA deal collapses, Levante could face disappointment, though they are expected to maintain a €30 million asking price for any club hoping to sign him in the summer.
Etta Eyong has demonstrated flashes of quality in La Liga this season, and a Premier League move may align with his stated ambition to play in England.
