Zamalek defender Hossam Abdelmaguid has broken his silence after a heated verbal exchange with teammate Abdallah El Said during the Egypt Cup defeat to Ceramica Cleopatra.
The incident took place in the round of 16 clash on Tuesday, a game Zamalek lost 2-1 at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium to exit the competition.
The night had already been difficult for Abdelmaguid, who inadvertently opened the scoring for Ceramica with an own goal in the 18th minute.
Zamalek later equalized through Mohamed Ismail in first-half stoppage time after a mix-up between Ceramica goalkeeper Mohamed Bassam and defender Ragab Nabil. Tensions on the pitch boiled over into a brief argument between Abdelmaguid and El Said, drawing attention from fans and media.
After the match, Abdelmaguid chose Instagram Stories to clarify his position, posting a photo of El Said celebrating an African Super Cup title. He wrote: “It is impossible for anyone to cover up the sun, and I swear to God alone that I have never deviated from literary principles as long as I live. He added: “I will never do that. My family raised me well, and thank you all.”
His words were seen as an attempt to show respect, defuse the controversy and reaffirm that, despite the emotions of the game, he remains committed to proper conduct and good upbringing.
