Former Morocco international Youssef Chippo chose not to criticise Al Ahly fans after the tense CAF Champions League clash with AS FAR, instead focusing on the spirit shown by both teams on the pitch.

The match in Cairo ended 0-0 on Sunday, sealing qualification for both sides.

Ahly supporters had thrown water bottles at AS FAR players in anger over incidents from the first leg in Morocco, where an object was hurled at Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet and large numbers of bottles were also launched onto the pitch by the home crowd. Even so, Chippo, speaking on beIN Sports, steered away from condemning the latest scenes.

He said the game had been “tense, with plenty of pull and push,” but stressed that “these things end with the final whistle,” urging people to highlight the respect between the players. Chippo insisted there was “great sportsmanship between the players” and congratulated both Ahly and AS FAR on making the quarterfinals.

He also praised AS FAR’s display, calling their defensive showing heroic and underlining how difficult it is to earn a precious point in such a high‑pressure tie away from home.
