Cédric Bakambu scored a decisive first-half stoppage-time goal to give Real Betis a 2-1 victory over RCD Mallorca on Sunday in La Liga’s 24th round.
The striker struck at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix to end a lengthy scoring drought in the league and secure three important points for Betis.
Starting in attack, Bakambu made his impact just before the interval.
In the second minute of added time in the first half, he met a pass from Antony inside the penalty area and fired a first-time effort low into the bottom left corner.
The finish handed Betis a two-goal advantage going into the break.
Mallorca responded after half-time and reduced the deficit, but the home side were unable to find an equaliser as Betis held on for the win.
The goal marked a significant moment for Bakambu, who had struggled for regular scoring form this season.
Before the match he had managed only one goal in nine league appearances and had frequently been named among the substitutes.
His latest strike improves his record to two goals in ten La Liga outings. Across all competitions, he now has three goals and two assists in 18 matches.
Beyond the statistics, the timing proved crucial.
Betis preserved their lead despite late pressure, and the victory provided a boost for both the team and the forward, whose contribution ultimately separated the sides in a closely contested encounter.
