Wydad AC produced a composed and clinical display to stun Azam FC with a 2–0 victory in their final group-stage encounter, a result that underlined the Moroccan giants’ pedigree on the continental stage.
The Moroccan giants went into the match already qualified, but the win ensured they finish top of Group B in the CAF Confederation Cup. The first half of the high-stake clash ended in a pulsating goalless draw, as both teams struggled to find the back of the net.
Putting on a stellar performance, Wydad AC cruised to a resounding victory at the Stade Mohammed V on Sunday evening.
Wydad AC broke the deadlock in the 64th-minute mark following Pascal Msindo’s own goal before France international Walid Nassi scored deep into stoppage time to cement victory for the Moroccan giants.
The defeat proved costly for Azam, who were unable to build on their earlier group-stage momentum. For Wydad, the victory capped a resilient group campaign and boosted their confidence as attention now turns to the knockout phase.
The result once again highlighted Wydad AC’s experience and composure in high-pressure situations, while Azam FC will be left to reflect on a missed opportunity at a crucial stage of the competition.
Wydad AC emerged as group winners with 15 points, followed by Congolese outfit Maniema Union (12 points), with Azam and Nairobi United finishing third and fourth spot respectively.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set February 17, 2026 for the Confederation Cup quarterfinal draw.
