Questions surrounding the long-term leadership at Kaizer Chiefs have resurfaced after club executive Bobby Motaung declined to confirm whether current co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef will remain in charge beyond the ongoing campaign.
The duo stepped into the spotlight earlier this season following the abrupt dismissal of Nasreddine Nabi, having initially served as part of his technical staff.
Their promotion was widely viewed as a move designed to preserve continuity within the squad during a turbulent opening to the season for the Soweto giants recently under mounting scrutiny.
Since assuming responsibility, the pair have overseen a notable improvement in results, guiding Amakhosi into strong contention in the Betway Premiership.
Chiefs currently occupy third place, sitting just two points behind defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns and five adrift of table-toppers Orlando Pirates.
Apart from a minor dip in form during December, their leadership has restored structure and belief within the squad, allowing the club to remain competitive in the title race while re-establishing a disciplined playing identity that supporters have long demanded from recent seasons.
Despite the encouraging resurgence, Motaung remained cautious when addressing speculation about the coaches’ permanence.
He stressed that their appointment was rooted in maintaining stability following Nabi’s departure, emphasising that consistency within management structures has contributed significantly to the team’s revival. However, he admitted that football’s unpredictable nature makes it impossible to offer assurances regarding next season.
“We don’t know yet, I can’t say what happens in the future,” Motaung said, as per iDiskiTimes.
“But currently, there is a reason why we are where we are – it’s because of the consistency we kept and the management we have.
“In future, football is football, one never knows how the results are going. But with the vision we’ve got and the patience we’ve got – I think we’ve got a great vision and plan to bring those glory days back.”
