Jonathan Tah marked his 30th birthday with another strong performance at the back as Bayern Munich beat RB Leipzig 2-0 to book a place in the DFB Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2020.
The centre-back said the game followed a familiar script after Bayern’s emphatic 6-0 away and 5-1 home wins over Leipzig in the Bundesliga earlier this season.
Tah underlined how demanding Leipzig are as opponents but explained that Bayern trust their resilience and patterns of play over 90 minutes.
“They definitely do well, bring the right intensity to the game and set us tasks,” he said. “We notice time and time again that there’s a point in the game when we manage to break them down somehow. Through a move we have, through the penalty then. From that point on, we realise that the game is on our side.”
Having already lifted the DFB Cup with Bayer Leverkusen in 2024, Tah is now determined to repeat that success with Bayern. “Getting to Berlin is something special. It’s been a long time since we’ve been there, so that’s obviously our goal… We want to win the cup too. We showed today how hungry we are for it,”
