Pyramids FC have continued their impressive rise on the continental stage after topping the African club rankings in the latest February update released by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.
The ranking, which evaluates the performances of the top 500 clubs worldwide, is based on results in domestic, continental and international competitions over the recent period.
The Cairo-based side emerged as the highest-ranked club in Africa, finishing ahead of traditional Egyptian powerhouses Al Ahly and Zamalek in a notable achievement that underlines the club’s growing influence.
Pyramids also placed second in the Arab world, trailing only Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal, further highlighting their strong standing beyond the African continent.
In contrast, Al Ahly were ranked second in Africa, while Zamalek settled for sixth place on the continent, behind several clubs from both North and Southern Africa, reflecting the increasingly competitive nature of African club football. On the global scale, Pyramids occupied 56th place worldwide, with Al Ahly positioned 96th and Zamalek trailing in 183rd place.
Pyramids’ ability to maintain their position at the summit of African football during February has been driven by their outstanding run in the African League Championship this season.
The club became the first side to secure qualification for the quarter-finals well before the conclusion of the group stage, doing so with two rounds to spare.
Their campaign included a convincing 3-0 home victory over Morocco’s Renaissance Berkane, followed by an emphatic 4-1 away win against Nigeria’s Rivers United, results that ensured top spot in their group.
The latest ranking serves as further evidence of the steady progress Pyramids FC have made in recent years. Consistent performances in continental competitions and strong results against top African opposition have allowed the club to establish itself as Egypt’s leading side in international assessments, surpassing the historic dominance of Al Ahly and Zamalek in this modern evaluation of club performance.
