The Confederation of African Football (CAF) faces uncertainty ahead of its Executive Committee meeting on Friday in Dar es Salaam, with reports suggesting some members may boycott the session.
Media outlet Winwin reports that several officials are considering skipping the meeting due to the absence of a detailed agenda, raising questions about the organisation and planning of what is expected to be a pivotal gathering for African football.
The incomplete communication has reportedly contributed to unease behind the scenes.
“In any governance body, the preparation of meetings and the communication of topics for discussion are sensitive issues, particularly in a context where several major matters are already stirring up the institution,” the report notes.
It adds that the lack of clarity may be part of internal efforts to control information and limit potential leaks.
Journalist Ablam Gnamesso described the atmosphere within CAF as “electric,” pointing to tensions that have been building since the previous Executive Committee meeting in Rabat.
That session was reportedly marked by a confrontation — later denied by those involved — between Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Moroccan Football Federation, and his Nigerian counterpart, Ibrahim Musa Gusau.
Friday’s meeting is set to tackle several pressing issues, including regulatory reforms following Senegal’s disqualification from hosting the Africa Cup of Nations final and the status of Secretary General Véron Mosengo-Omba, who has exceeded the age limit for holding office.
Should influential members indeed be absent, the situation could intensify concerns over CAF’s internal cohesion and decision-making processes.
Observers say the potential boycott reflects deeper governance challenges within the organisation at a sensitive period for African football.
While no official confirmation has been made regarding absences, the speculation underscores the ongoing strains and the high stakes surrounding the meeting.
CAF officials are expected to address both structural reforms and immediate operational concerns, with the outcome likely to influence the future of the continental body’s governance.
Le climat est électrique à la CAF en ce moment. Les rapports entre certains dirigeants se sont nettement dégradés depuis la réunion houleuse du bureau exécutif à Rabat. Plusieurs dossiers ont provoqué des échanges très vifs entre membres.
