Ahead of Bayern Munich’s exciting cup quarterfinal against RB Leipzig on Wednesday, the mood around Jonathan Tah could hardly be better.
The central defender celebrates his 30th birthday on matchday, a milestone Vincent Kompany used to pay a heartfelt tribute to his leader at the back.
“I was having the best years of my life at that time, around age 30,” the former centre-back recalled, saying he now sees Tah in the “best phase” of his career.
Kompany is particularly impressed by Tah’s constant development in recent seasons. “There hasn’t been a single year in which it stagnated,” he emphasised, underlining how Tah has improved year after year. For the coach, the defender is indispensable not only in duels, but also as a communicator and leader who stabilises the back line with his experience, a quality that grows with age and maturity.
Bayern’s solid defensive structure, Kompany believes, is due in no small part to Tah’s presence.
“We are very satisfied with his performance,” the Bayern coach concluded, making clear how important the Germany international has become at this flourishing stage of his career.
