Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah could be edging closer to a sensational move away from England, with Saudi Pro League giants Al-Ittihad emerging as serious contenders for his signature.
Salah has now opened the door to negotiations with the Jeddah-based club, marking a significant shift from his stance last year.
At the time, the former Chelsea and Roma forward was determined to remain in England, shutting down interest from Saudi Arabia. However, circumstances have changed, and the Egyptian icon is now said to be giving genuine consideration to a potential switch.
As per reports, talks have already moved beyond mere interest. Salah’s representatives are understood to be engaged in active talks with Al-Ittihad over possible contract terms, an indication that the move is being taken seriously by both parties.
Should negotiations progress smoothly and an agreement be reached, the 31-year-old could complete a high-profile transfer to the Saudi Pro League as early as the upcoming summer window.
The change in outlook comes against the backdrop of a challenging and unfulfilling season for Salah. On the pitch, his campaign has fallen short of expectations, while off it, tensions have surfaced. A widely reported public disagreement with his manager over being left on the bench reportedly strained relations and left a lasting impression on the player.
Although Salah eventually returned to the starting lineup following his Africa Cup of Nations commitments, uncertainty over his long-term future has persisted. The frustrations of the current season, combined with renewed interest from Saudi Arabia, appear to have reignited thoughts of a possible departure.
If the move materializes, it would represent one of the most significant transfers involving an African football icon in recent years, further underlining the Saudi Pro League’s ambition to attract elite global talent.
