Timothy Weah believes a frank post-match meeting with Marseille supporters was the turning point in the team’s revival after their heavy 3-0 Champions League defeat to Club Brugge.
When the squad returned from Belgium, players, fans and club officials came together for an emotional discussion that Weah says “put things in perspective” for the dressing room.
“The meeting with the supporters put things in perspective; we changed our mentality,” Weah told Foot Mercato, admitting that the fans’ words “really affected” the players because “they love the club, it’s their life.”
He said he took the criticism seriously, and the response was immediate as Marseille produced a dominant 3-0 win over Rennes in the French Cup. “I took it seriously, and we delivered a great performance against Rennes. I hope we keep this going,” he added.
Weah also revealed that talks with the coach reinforced how serious the moment was. “We questioned ourselves. Everyone is ready for the next matches.
This club means everything to me,” he said, underlining the renewed unity between players and fans ahead of the upcoming Classique against PSG.
